About Us

The Middle East Security Studies (MESS) Society is Oxford’s first initiative that is exclusively dedicated to the study of conflict in this globally significant region. Devoted to a non-partisan examination of the various dimensions of security – including military, technology, environment and religion – the Society will convene weekly lectures with world-renowned academics and military personnel to explore such topics. Through engaging Q&A sessions and small-group dinners, students will be offered the opportunity to analyse the ever-changing security landscape of the Middle East and network with high-profile speakers. In an era of clickbaits, soundbites and extreme polarisation, the Society will also aim to help its members develop a sophisticated and critical approach to security events that are currently unfolding in the region.
